As a Toronto Realtor and a Happy Healthy Woman, I am always out and about investigating areas in the city discovering ways to be active. In a sweeping city like Toronto, being fit doesn’t just mean feeling good, being healthy and looking young — but a constant opportunity to discover this great town, one active neighbourhood at a time!
Where you live must reflect your lifestyle so if you're active and healthy and you're looking to move or if you're new to the city, here are a few of my favourite areas, focused on gyms and studios. And no, I haven’t forgotten about some of Toronto’s incredible parks and trails, like my personal favourite: the Kay Gardner Belt Line that spans from the Allen to Mount Pleasant Road. But I’ll saving those for a special piece of their own on my blog - www.tiffanysly.com soon ...
Either way, in my opinion, if you are a Happy Healthy Women (or man!), these are some of the best areas in the city to live:
THE ANNEX
The Miles Nadal JCC gives you the option of adding a vigorous swim to your typical workout. And since it’s salt-water, you won't need to worry about the effects of too much chlorine. Just remember your goggles! The Annex is also home to Wu Xing Martial Arts, Vidya Institute, Shas Yoga & Pilates, Fighting Arts Collective, Vive Fitness, Dragonfly Bellydance, Blast Athletic and more.
THE DANFORTH
Not only does Tidal Crossfit satisfy the all level fitness needs of Toronto’s east siders, but Olympic-style training is also emphasized. Y’know, in case you were thinking of adding a gold, silver or bronze medal to your jewelry kit. The Danforth is also home to Orangetheory Fitness, 3 Monkeys Fitness, Akasha Yoga, Riverdale Fitness, Energia Athletics and more.
FINANCIAL DISTRICT
Equinox is the North American leader in luxury gyms, and for a community called the Financial District, wouldn’t you agree it’s found perfect Toronto digs? The Financial District is also home to MedX Precision Fitness, Toronto Athletic Club, Adelaide Club and more.
FOREST HILL VILLAGE
With rowing, boxing, yoga and their signature cardio / resistance training hybrid (its called Circuit 60), Track Fitness is guaranteed to keep your workouts interesting. And punishing! Forest Hill Village is also home to Studio Lagree, Village Yoga and more.
KING WEST
Consider boutique gym Totum Life Science the antithesis to an overwhelming, mass chain operation like GoodLife. Fine by me. King West is also home to SoulCycle, Whole Life Balance, StudioKO, Imprint Pilates, Moksha Yoga, CYKL, Quad Spin and more.
LESLIEVILLE
Primal MMA / Primal Movement ticks all the boxes. Serious conditioning or group circuit training? Check. Hardcore fighting skills? Check. A ruthless combination of both? Check. Leslieville is also home to One Academy, Hone Fitness, MOVE Fitness, 9Round Toronto, Torq, The Cycling Gym, Leslieville Sanctuary, CoreWorks, Anchored Social Club, Dwell Gym, Spirit Loft, Aikido Shugyo Dojo, Combat Asylum and more.
LITTLE ITALY
The West End YMCA’s got an indoor track, pool, and surplus of workout machines. Little Italy is also home to F45 Training, Ashtanga Yoga Shala, Octopus Garden and more.
QUEEN WEST
If you’re looking for a gym that’s equal parts lifestyle, then Fuel Training Club is for you. Queen West is also home to MuseMovement, Hourglass Workout, Fly Queen West, YYoga, Barreworks, Yoga Tree, Core Studio and more.
ROSEDALE
For a gym located in one of Toronto’s wealthier locales, Ultimate Athletics remains remarkably unpretentious. In other words, don’t expect tuxedoed butlers wiping down your machines when you are done with them. Rosedale is also home to The Rosedale Club, Body Mason, 889 Yonge Yoga and Wellness Centre and more.
YONGE & EGLINTON
At Ferris360’s signature Full 360 class, maybe the hardest hour of your life will be spent doing high intensity circuits while working out your whole body. Yonge & Eglinton is also home to OrangeTheory Fitness, SPINCO Toronto, Wayne Bourque Centre Ring, Surfset Toronto, TKMT Academy, STOTT Pilates and more.
