Plant Protein? Why Do I Need It?

 

 

We hear so many myths about protein, in particular when it comes to plant-based protein. Most of us are used to eating animal protein and until I went vegan, I did too.  One of the adjustments I had to make was to start taking a plant protein - I am so happy to have found ZIJA's Core Moringa protein product! 

 

But first, let's get a few key things out of the way with regards to protein & what makes plant protein so great.

 

Protein is a macronutrient & is really crucial for building muscle mass. It's made up of amino acids which build protein - this protein builds up muscle. We need to get protein from our diet because it is not made by our bodies naturally.  

 

Plant-proteins come from plants & are beneficial for a few reasons:

 

1) They don't contain growth hormones or antibiotics (who wants to eat those?)

 

2) They are easy to digest 

 

3) They are much better for the environment 

 

4) The greener the food, the better. (Most steak isn't green!)

 

You want to get a variety of plants that combine together to give you the complete amino acids that you need.

 

Doesn't that sound like a lot of work?

 

It is.  That is why I use Zija's protein.

Easy - you can just throw the packet in a blender with your milk or water. Or make a smoothie out of it by adding fruit.

 

Or try these pancakes:

 

 

Vanilla Protein Banana Pancakes

 

Ingredients:

 

1 cup rolled oats

1 tbsp organic flaxseed meal

2 packs vanilla plant protein powder

1 banana

2 eggs (or applesauce if you are vegan)

1 1/4 cups water

 

Combine all of the ingredients except the water in a large mixing bowl.  Take a fork & combine everything together so that it forms a dough-like consistency.  Add in water until you reach the pancake consistency that you desire!  Scoop up some mix & place it in a hot fry pan. Add in pancake toppings or your choice & enjoy!

 

 

This protein comes in both vanilla and chocolate (my favorite)!
